And We’re Off! A First Day at Putney

Hello from Putney!

We are so excited to write to you surrounded by nine eager and curious campers! Today was arrival day for our Discover Putney Vermont students and we are off with a bang. After an initial early afternoon filled with get-to-know-you games and snacks, Kai, Lucy, Sam, Grey, Lily C., Henry, Ben, Nina and Lily V. didn’t let the rain stop them!

Together, all eleven of us faced the rain with smiles…and bathing suits! We swam and kayaked in the lake through rain and sun. After drying off, we geared up for a short walk toward Putney Director Peter Shumlin’s house. On the way we were met by a fellow Putney Student Travel friend, Kevin, who showed us what it is like to live in a true Vermont yurt! Highlights? Searching for wild strawberries near his garden!

After a lucky pick up from Peter himself, we were brought up to his and his wife Katie’s house. There, Katie showed us around, which included a tour of their residential chickens and pigs. Picture this: eruptions of laughter, nine campers chasing chickens, and a silly amount of smiles.

Following a first meal of burgers, hotdogs, and more, we all strolled back to the Putney Barn to learn about the essentials of setting up tents, packing a perfect bag, and how to perfectly fit in a tent with new friends.

Tomorrow will bring trips to local favorites Vermont Shepherd and Green Mountain Spinnery.

We can’t wait to tell you more soon,

Clay & Claire
